What is the Ali Weight Loss Diet Pill?
Alli is the OTC (over-the-counter) version of the prescription drug Orlistat (Xenical), which is prescribed for the treatment of obesity. It is approved for use by adults, and meant to be used together with a low-fat diet.
These two drugs work by keeping the enzyme lipase from doing its usual function of breaking down the fat the we eat and therefore keeping us from digesting the fat. Instead, the fat simply passes through the intestines and is eliminated when going to the bathroom.
Are Ali Weight Loss Pills Effective?
Alli is a lower dosage – specifically 1/2 the amount – form of the prescription drug Orlistat, 60 milligrams vs. 120 milligrams. As such, it will be roughly half as effective as the prescription strength version. Orlistat will generally allow one to lose around 5 to 7 pounds of weight per year than would be possible with diet and exercise alone. So, consequently, one could expect an average weight loss of 3 to 5 pounds with Alli, with all other factors being equal.
Are there any potential hazards of using Alli?
The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) was prompted by a small number of reports of liver damage, to begin a safety review of orlistat in 2009. They found no causal relationship. However, both Alli and Xenical carry warnings on their labels now to caution users to be alert to signs of liver damage, such as yellow eyes or skin, loss of appetite, itchy skin or brown urine.
Are there any side effects with the Ali weight loss pill?
It is strongly recommended that you eat no more than 15 grams of fat during each meal. Eating more fat than this can cause unpleasant side effects, such as urgent bowel movements, diarrhea and gas with oily spotting. So, you’ve been warned.
Take this warning seriously, as it is perhaps the most frequently noted negative potential side-effect of using Alli. Not everyone experiences this problem, but it something you need to be aware of.
The best way to avoid this side effect is to make sure you adhere to the fat limit noted above. While even this may not completely eliminate the possibility of this nasty side-effect, it will certainly give you your best chance of avoiding it, or, at least minimizing it. If you can do this, not only will it make your experience with the Ali Weight loss pill more pleasant, as eating less fat will add to your success in achieving your weight loss goals.
